Max Lu

Max Lu is a media and education innovator with a global perspective and a deep commitment to advancing knowledge and collaboration in higher education. A PhD candidate at Harvard University, Max’s research explores the impact of emerging technologies like Generative AI on critical thinking, perspective-taking, and learning. His interdisciplinary approach draws from engineering, media studies, and learning sciences, offering novel insights into the role of technology in education.

In his professional career, Max has held leadership roles at Reuters, Bloomberg Media, and the Los Angeles Times, driving technological innovation in the global media landscape. At Reuters, he spearheaded cross-institutional collaborations with Harvard and MIT. At Bloomberg Media, Max developed the company’s first Generative AI strategy, designing personalized news experiences that leveraged cutting-edge technologies. His tenure at the LA Times saw him pioneer the use of Natural Language Processing and Augmented Reality in publishing workflows, resulting in an industry-leading NLP patent and groundbreaking solutions for information overload.

As co-founder of Dialogues on Asian Universities (DAU), Max has helped establish a leading platform for dialogue among scholars and university leaders on the future of higher education in Asia. Drawing on his experience across Asia and North America, Max brings a unique ability to bridge cultural and institutional gaps, fostering meaningful cross-border collaboration. His work continues to shape conversations on innovation, technology, and the evolving role of universities in a globalized world.
